Initial Assessment
The EL teacher will measure the student's listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English using the W-APT or MODEL when they first enter a school at WOCSD. The teacher also will observe the student and consult with the student's classroom teacher about his or her language skills. If a child is transferring from another district in Maine, the EL teacher will contact the former school district to confirm whether or not a student was enrolled an EL program. If a student has scores from either the W-APT or the ACCESS test, then these scores will also be used by WOCSD.
