Parent Permission
If a student qualifies for EL services a parent permission letter will be sent home, so they may accept or decline their child's participation in the EL program. Parents have the right to choose whether or not their student participates in EL services, unless a student in struggling academically due to their lack of proficiency in English. If this situation occurs, the EL teacher is obligated to provide EL services. Parents also have a right to choose the whether their student receives push-in or pull-out services. Services may also be discontinued by a parent at any time as long as the student is succeeding academically.
However, it is important to note that even though parents may decline services, students who qualify for EL services must take the ACCESS test each year until they reach a level 6.
